Marrowmoon

A tyrant falls. The moon drinks.

A dark 2D pixel-art action platformer of heavy, grounded combat, parry and riposte, under a rotting moon that turns with every rest and every fall.

The game

A paid sword, a rotting moon

Hollowford is burning, and you wake at its edge: a stand-in, a sword paid to die in another man’s place, with a crescent crack bleeding in your left palm. The dead follow that Hollow Mark. They do not want you dead. They want you at the tower.

Marrowmoon is a 2D action platformer in dark pixel art, drawn at 320 × 180 and scaled pixel-perfect. You walk one road through six chapters, from burning Hollowford by the Gallows Road, the crypt beneath the chapel, the Field of Spears and the Rotting Wood to the Pale Crown itself, and decide what you carry up it. Nobody keeps the moon any more, so it keeps its own time: every rest at a fire and every fall is a night, and how often you rest and fall decides which moon hangs over the next stretch of road.

What waits on the road

  1. Heavy, grounded combat.Three-hit combos, charged sweeps, plunging strikes that crack the ground, ledge grabs, a roll that makes you untouchable, and a last-instant parry that turns your next blow into a critical riposte.
  2. A moon that keeps its own time.Under the blood moon the dead grow bold, marrow comes twice over and the moon doors stand open; on moonless nights they are half blind, and you can walk softly past them.
  3. Six chapters to the Pale Crown.Five chapter tyrants, the Hollow Saint at the top of the tower, four secret bosses off the path and three endings, decided by what you do with the Mark and with the people you meet.
  4. Five weapons, one build. The Pilgrim’s Blade, the Chain-Axe, the Spear, the Twin Daggers and Aldric’s Sword, a forge from +1 to +5, and two rings and a talisman from 29 rings and 20 talismans.
  5. A game that remembers you.Foes that kill you return as named nemeses with a scar and a rank, and the Moonless Knight copies how you fight and punishes your habits.
  6. More roads.Moonfall, a roguelike mode of 78 rooms with a daily seed, plus Boss Rush, New Moon (New Game+) and a speedrun mode with splits and a ghost.

“Nine nights ago I lay dying in a ditch.”

Questions & answers

Marrowmoon, asked and answered

The questions people ask most about Marrowmoon, answered from the game as it stands today.

  1. When does Marrowmoon release?

There is no release date yet. Marrowmoon is coming to Steam, and a demo with Chapter I is prepared for it. The Steam page is not live yet; the “Wishlist on Steam” buttons on this site switch on the day it is. Follow Candlewane on TikTok, Instagram or YouTube, or join the Discord, to hear first.

  2. What kind of game is Marrowmoon?

A dark 2D pixel-art action platformer with heavy melee combat, boss fights and a parry-and-riposte system, in the spirit of games like Blasphemous and classic Castlevania. Instead of one sprawling map you walk one road through six chapters, with secrets and four secret bosses off the path.

  3. Which platforms will Marrowmoon be on?

Windows and Linux / SteamOS, on Steam. It is made to play on Steam Deck too: every screen works with a controller alone, and keyboard and controller can be rebound.

  4. Is Marrowmoon hard?

It asks for timing, but you choose how much: there are three difficulties (Easy, Normal and Nightmare), every enemy blow is announced before it lands, and the options include adjustable game speed, colour-blind telegraph shapes, sound captions, large text, reduced motion and reduced flashes.

  5. Which languages does Marrowmoon support?

English, German, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
