A hero RTS and village builder in isometric pixel art. Walk your valley as Pelagius, fight at the front, and raise a village that has to feed its own defenders.
Hold the passes until Covadonga
Asturias, 718. Seven years after the Arab and Berber conquest, the Visigothic kingdom has fallen and most of the Gothic nobility has made terms with the new masters of Hispania. In the mountains of the north one man refuses the tribute: Pelagius, Pelayo in Spanish, who gathers the people of the valleys around him.
You walk your valley in the Picos de Europa yourself, fight at the front with spatha and shield, and order the building of a village that has to feed its own defenders. Every summer the governor’s raid, the aceifa, comes up one of the passes to burn the fields, empty the hórreos and drive off the cattle, until Alqama brings the whole host to Covadonga: in 722, or later if you keep the emir fooled.

What the valley asks of you
- Lead from the front. You are Pelagius, walking the valley and fighting in the line with spatha and shield while your men follow, hold or charge on your word.
- A living village through four seasons.Sow the spelt in spring, survive the emir’s summer raid, bring in the harvest and get through a winter of snow and wolves. Villagers really work, and families grow.
- Every soldier is a villager.Arm spearmen, swordsmen, axemen, bowmen and slingers, each a pair of hands taken from the fields, and lock shields into a wall that stops arrows and breaks a charge.
- The mountain fights for you.Loosen boulders onto a column, release a dammed stream on a ford, and burn the emir’s watch posts so his columns ride blind.
- Fool the emir.He knows only what his watchmen count: bank the hearths, light false fires, and keep Alqama’s host away from Covadonga as long as you dare.
- A codex for the history. The game says plainly where it simplifies or invents, and which sources it follows. Music and sound are synthesised by the game itself.
Four seasons in the valley
Asturias 718, asked and answered
What people ask about Asturias 718, answered from the game as it stands today.
Is Asturias 718 historically accurate?
It is built on the real history of 718 to 722: the fall of the Visigothic kingdom, Pelagius, the governor Munuza at Gijón, Alqama and the battle the chroniclers call Covadonga. Villages of teitos and hórreos, spelt fields, the spatha and the shield wall all come from that world. It is still a game, so it simplifies and invents where play needs it, and an in-game codex says plainly where it does so and which sources it follows. The soldiers of the governors of al-Andalus, Arab, Berber and local troops, are shown as the real, varied army they were, never as caricatures.
Is Pelagius the same person as Pelayo?
Yes. Pelagius is the Latin form of the name used by the chronicles, and the English game uses it; in Spanish he is Pelayo, the leader remembered for the Battle of Covadonga and the beginning of the Kingdom of Asturias.
When does Asturias 718 come out?
There is no release date yet. Asturias 718 is in development: Chapter I is a playable prototype, and the Steam page is in preparation. It is planned for Windows and Linux / SteamOS.
